Most would consider the 62MAS to be Seiko’s first true diver, and with its 150-meter depth rating, it certainly marked the brand’s serious foray into underwater watches. But before that historic release, Seiko had already dipped its toes into the world of dive watches with the remarkable "Silver Wave" series, a collection that laid the foundation for Seiko’s enduring legacy in the category.
This particular example is the Ref.69799, dating back to October 1964, which represents the second generation of the Silver Wave line, and finding one in this condition is almost beyond belief. Unworn and impeccably preserved with its original bracelet and tag, the case is a masterclass in mid-century design, with elegant tapered lugs, a refined round profile, and a slimmer stance on the wrist. The knurled crown at four o’clock isn’t just for setting the time, it also operates the inner countdown-style bezel, reinforcing the watch’s utilitarian charm.
The dial is a spectacle in itself: A charcoal sunburst finish, accented by polished applied markers, all framed by a crisp black-and-white internal bezel. The "AD" logo at six o’clock signals that the indexes are rhodium-plated, adding to the watch’s subtle yet undeniable luxury. Every inch of luminous material remains vibrant, still glowing in that signature Seiko green. And on the case back, the beautifully etched tsunami emblem is not only pristine, it even retains remnants of its original protective blue film.
As time passes, early Silver Wave models become ever scarcer, making this example an extraordinary find. A true piece of Seiko history, ready for its next chapter.
The watch currently works flawlessly and it will be sold as-is to preserve its original condition. Please let us know if you wish to service it.
