Seiko Lord Marvel 5740-0010

Before Grand Seiko, there was Lord Marvel. It was Seiko's first domestically produced watch to be labeled a "luxury watch," launched in 1958 at a price twice that of existing models. Though it underwent several evolutions over the years, the Lord Marvel remained true to its core design: clean, understated, and quietly sophisticated.

The 5740-0010 represents a fascinating bridge in this lineage as it is a transitional model between the low-beat hand-wound calibers of the early years and the high-beat movements. Available in both stainless steel and gold-plated (SGP) versions, this reference was offered with either a sunburst or vertically brushed dial, and dauphine hands with a cursive logo below the center. The 36mm case wears slightly smaller than its predecessor due to a thicker bezel, giving it a compact look but Seiko added an extra water-resistance feature with a screw-down caseback with the seahorse logo.

We're offering this exceptional new old stock find that comes complete with its original accessories as it was originally sold. The originally silver linen dial has developed a beautiful light brown patina making it even more special. A gem from the golden era, it's a perfect addition in any collection.
