In Japanese, the term "Kakume" translates roughly to "square eyes." Just like a pair of square, satin silver eyes, the sub-registers of this impressive chronograph gaze back at you from their recessed position beneath the deep metallic blue dial.
This particular example, produced in October 1974, is truly exceptional. The dial is flawless and enthralls from every perspective. It showcases a luxurious cobalt blue color, bordered by black and adorned with polished applied markers accented with white stripes. The square sub-registers possess a soft silver tone, finished with a satin texture in a vertical grain pattern.
The baton-style hour and minute hands are elegantly slender, coated in flat black with white tips, and their original luminous plots display only a slight patina. The chronograph hands retain their vivid orange color, creating a striking contrast against the surrounding blue and silver elements.
The matching bezel insert is remarkably well-preserved, exhibiting minimal signs of wear. It is accompanied by the original Seiko 5 Sports XGA261 bracelet.
This timepiece is entirely original, and following its service, it maintains near-perfect timekeeping. The chronograph pushers are precise and responsive, ensuring a snappy reset. As the demand for vintage Seiko chronographs continues to rise, opportunities to acquire pieces in such exceptional condition have become exceedingly rare. Don't let this one slip away.
