Seiko's "Turtle" Sport Divers are widely recognized and need little introduction. As the brand's best-selling diver of all time, their popularity and reliability are undisputed. With a commanding presence and a distinctive appearance, owning a well-preserved example of this iconic diver is highly desirable. However, owning a well-preserved JDM (Japanese Domestic Market) version is even better. The 6306 model was produced alongside the 6309 export version, but its production ceased in 1981 when the latter was moved to Hong Kong. This resulted in a short five-year window to acquire one of these rarer domestic variants. In addition to featuring a Kanji day wheel, the JDM "Turtle" is equipped with an upgraded 21-jewel, hacking 6306 movement. In contrast, the export counterpart, while capable, comes with a 17-jewel, non-hacking 6309 movement. The exemplary piece from May 1979 that we offer is truly exceptional.
 
The dial, in a pristine matte black finish, is breathtaking, and the large original luminous hour markers have developed a subtle creamy patina, complementing the broad polished hands perfectly.
