Introducing a very unique piece: The Seiko Champion Flyingfish J14082. The Seiko Champion range has been introduced in the early 60s as the Seiko entry range. All models had hand-wound movements, with or without date. In the first years, their design was quite classical and elegant. In 1963, a more sporty design has been introduced with the Champion Calendar and with water resistance capability. Among these sports models, Seiko released the Alpinist in replacement of the Laurel model and introduced the Flyingfish. These two models were designed and manufactured under special specifications: Particularly for the Flyingfish, it was intended to be Waterproof which was very unusual at that time. Seiko's goal was to release a sports watch dedicated to fishing leisure activities thus giving it the "Flyingfish" name. This J13033 is powered by Kameido's 17J hand-winding movement and comes with a signed SW Mark on the crown which stands for Seiko Waterproof and a unique Flyingfish logo on the case-back.
The Flyingfish were sold in limited numbers and originally came with 3 dial types: The shiny silver dial reminiscent of the Flyingfish scale, a flat white dial, and a white 3D dial with Lume on the hands and hours markers. But this example we have to offer is an undocumented black version of the 3D white dial. Could it be a prototype? We don't know for sure but the dial has been confirmed to be original as we compared it to the white version.
Since the Flyingfish were made in limited numbers, it is now becoming a very desirable and collectible piece in Japan and internationally. This is a great opportunity to own this rarer black dial version!
