Seiko's 6139-60XX chronographs have achieved true iconic status. With their distinctive barrel-shaped cases and striking color combinations, they are instantly recognizable and often serve as a gateway for newly converted enthusiasts.
 
As with many of Seiko's early chronographs, two versions were produced in parallel: a larger production variant with a lower jewel count for export, and a smaller production model with a higher jewel count exclusively for the Japanese domestic market.
The Japanese domestic market (JDM) 6139 models, among other references, were referred to as "Speed Timers" and often featured the "5 Sports" badge on their dials. These watches appropriately displayed the day of the week in both English and Japanese (Kanji), and were available in unique color schemes and accompanied by signature bracelets not found on the export versions.
For collectors, these JDM references are highly sought after. However, due to their limited availability outside of Japan, sourcing them can be a challenge. That is why we are particularly thrilled to offer this exceptional timepiece from January of 1970. Not only is it a rare reference in general, but it is also an early "Proof" model in astonishing condition, making it one of the earliest JDM Coke models ever produced.
 
This watch is completely original and, after undergoing servicing, it maintains near-perfect timekeeping. The chronograph functions are precise and responsive, with a snappy reset to zero.
