The King Seiko Vanac was Seiko’s boldest take on high-end watchmaking: Flashy, angular, and unapologetically extravagant. Produced between 1972 and 1976, every Vanac sported a colorful dial, faceted Hardlex crystal, and an eye-catching case.
A Vanac is, simply put—but actually, exceptionally—a King Seiko with attitude. These weren’t just your standard dress watches: They featured faceted glass, gold bezels, great quality bracelets, and, in some cases, drilled lug holes for a more practical edge. And then there were the dials—pure artistry, with textures, gradients, and metallic tones that played beautifully with light.
By 1969, Suwa had already introduced its high-end King Seiko 56KS and Grand Seiko 56GS, leaving Daini to push mechanical watchmaking to its peak with the King Seiko 52KS. Some models were regulated to "Special" or even “Very Fine Accuracy” (V.F.A.) standards, making them some of the most precise mechanical watches Seiko ever made. Naturally, the 52KS also got its fair share of Vanac models.
That brings us to this immaculate 52KS Vanac Ref. 5246-6070. At first glance, it’s a lot to take in for sure but the more you look, the better it gets. The dial is a masterpiece, featuring a deep, textured hammered blue that darkens at the edges, paired with silver and gold indexes that extend onto the hands for a seamless look. Topping it all off? A stunning nine-cut purple Hardlex crystal, which bends light in ways that make the dial shimmer and shift, adding an almost magical play of reflections.
Of course, the case follows the Vanac philosophy: sharp angles, alternating finishes, and light-catching surfaces, all packed into a 37mm × 14.3mm stainless steel build. And the bracelet? A rouleaux-style design with flatter links, engineered to maximize light play without sacrificing comfort.
We’re thrilled to offer this pristine, unused example with its original price tag. Seiko recently reissued a Vanac-inspired model, borrowing some of the case design, but let’s be honest, nothing beats the originals. Experience a vintage Vanac in untouched condition like this, and you’ll know exactly why.
The watch will be serviced once purchased. Servicing will take between 1-2 months to be completed before being shipped.
