King Seiko First J14102E Steel SD

In September 1961, Seiko unveiled a true game-changer: the King Seiko. Announced with pride in Seiko News, the King Seiko positioned itself alongside the likes of the Grand Seiko, Lord Marvel, and Crown Special. While the Grand Seiko chased perfection with an uncompromising focus on design, the King Seiko carved out its own path, delivering premium craftsmanship at a price that didn’t require a royal treasury.

One of the King Seiko’s most significant innovations was its flat dial. Prior to this, Seiko had been limited to convex dials, a concession to the technology of the era. The King Seiko threw that limitation out the window, debuting a design that not only broke the mold but set a new standard. This pioneering feature wasn’t just about aesthetics—it was a turning point that would shape the future of Seiko’s watchmaking.

The King Seiko truly shines in the details. Its crisp printed dial inscriptions pair beautifully with classic arrowhead hands, staying true to Seiko's signature style. The slightly broader seconds hand tapers elegantly to its tip, striking a perfect balance between form and function. Both the minute and seconds hands align precisely with the minute markers, reflecting an almost poetic dedication to legibility. Bold, wide indices further enhance the dial, with a distinctive double-piece marker at 12 o’clock commanding attention. Completing the design is a tall, domed Plexiglas crystal, adding more depth.

The King Seiko First debuted in two versions: the 14-ligne J14102E and the 15-ligne 15034. Today, we proudly offer an exceptionally rare new old stock J14102E SD variant, complete with original straps, buckle, price tag, and even the protective blue film. What sets it apart? Its 14K white gold indexes, are meticulously applied using the "Shokuji" technique.

Whether you’re looking for your next companion to grace your wrist on special occasions or a gem to enrich your personal museum collection, this particular example is among the finest, if not the very best, you can find on the web.

The watch currently works flawlessly and will be sold as is to retain its original look.
