The King Seiko 45KS series holds significant importance for collectors as they impeccably embody Tanaka's Grammar of Design principles. Additionally, these series are profoundly associated with the 1960s Swiss chronometer trials, as their movement directly evolved from the innovations forged during that era-defining competition.
The 45KS movement introduced a new chronometer-grade watch, succeeding the King Seiko 4420-9990. King Seiko chronometers were independently certified by the Japan Chronometer Inspection Institute to meet Swiss standards, requiring precision within -1.0 to +10.0 seconds/day across five positions, denoted as Seiko's 'A' grade accuracy, leading to the 'Officially Certified' mark on dials.
One interesting reference we're excited to offer is this Ref.4502-8010: Also made available in a no-date variation, this reference was exclusively made in stainless steel, boasting a captivating white sunburst dial. While evoking the iconic turtle-shaped design reminiscent of the 7010 case, the 8010 case stands out with its notably thicker profile, particularly noticeable from a side perspective. The lugs are characterized by their short and stout appearance, while the case flanks slope sharply downwards, creating an elegant convex pebble-like contour. Noteworthy are the hands exclusive to the chronometer model, featuring central black stripes reminiscent of the 45KS models, albeit with a sleeker and less sword-like design.
This example includes its original straps, KS buckle, tags, and box, still adorned with its blue protective film on the caseback. Acquiring this particular watch offers a rare opportunity to experience how this reference was originally sold during its release.
The watch will be serviced once purchased. Servicing will take between 1-2 months to be completed before being shipped.
