Grand Seiko was established with a clear objective: to create a wristwatch of unparalleled precision, durability, comfort, and aesthetics, as Seiko articulated. It was not merely a challenge to the Swiss watchmaking elite but a demonstration of Seiko's ability to meet and exceed their rigorous benchmarks. This ambition was realized with the introduction of the inaugural Grand Seiko, the J14070, housing the 3180 movement, in 1960. Despite its outward resemblance to contemporary dress watches, its manually wound 25-jewel movement achieved an impressive accuracy of -3/ +12 seconds per day, meeting Seiko's strict chronometer standards.

Four years later, the 43999 was introduced as a notable successor, boasting a distinctive style that captivated enthusiasts inside and out. This early model of the 57GS series laid the groundwork for Taro Tanaka's influential "Grammar of Design" through its pioneering case architecture and the introduction of Zaratsu polishing techniques. Significantly larger and more commanding than its predecessor, the 43999 also introduced a date complication, marking a significant advancement for Grand Seiko. Its hand-wound Cal. 430 movement, later renamed as the 5722, upheld Seiko's tradition of meeting rigorous chronometer standards.

Among the diverse variants of the Ref.43999, the SD stands out as the pinnacle of desirability. Distinguished by indexes crafted from 14K white gold and meticulously hand-plated using the revered Shokuji technique at Suwa's plant, this variant holds a special allure for collectors. In our pursuit of the extraordinary, we're thrilled to present an immaculate, unused specimen of the iconic SD variant. This pristine timepiece retains its original allure, complete with the coveted blue sticker on the caseback as a testament to its untouched condition straight from the factory. Accompanied by its original straps, buckle, Chronometer tag, box, and instruction manual, this offering deserves a museum exhibition.
