Launched in 1967, the 61GS series boasts a remarkable array of models produced over its production span until 1975, totaling 51 distinct models. Across design, construction, finish, and quality, the 61GS stands out, effortlessly holding its own against its contemporaries.
We've said it before and we'll say it again, the Ref.6146-8000 is the true embodiment of Taro Tanaka's design philosophy, famously referred to as the Grammar of Design. This reference features shiny, sleek flat surfaces adorned with precise lines that delineate various sections. The square shape formed between the lugs and the bezel is particularly noteworthy, filled, and endowed with a brushed finish for a striking contrast with the sides.
To truly appreciate its beauty, a closer inspection is essential: the case retains its factory sharpness, captivatingly playing with light, while the dial showcases a stunning silver finish complemented by steel baton markers.
What truly sets this apart is its rarity — not only does it sport a scarce early dial variant adorned with the Grand Seiko logo instead of the more prevalent Hi-Beat 36000, but it's also sharp and comes as part of an extraordinary set, a rarity in itself. Complete with all the tags, original box, outer-box, matching certificate numbers, and even its original straps neatly tucked in its original plastic bag, this set stands as a testament to the joy of uncovering such unique gems.
A genuine treasure hailing from the Showa era, we're thrilled to present this museum-grade set for sale.
