The 61GS series launched in 1967 and there was a vast variation of models that were produced throughout the production run of the series (51 models in total) that lasted until 1975. In design, construction, finish, and quality, the 61GS easily compares and stands tall with any of its contemporaries.
The 6145-8000 exemplifies Taro Tanaka's design philosophy known as the Grammar of Design. It showcases shiny, smooth flat surfaces with distinct, precise lines separating various sections. The area between the lugs and the bezel is filled, creating a square shape, and this filled-in space has a brushed finish to provide some contrast with the sides. But you really need to see it up close to really enjoy this one: The case is factory sharp and plays beautifully in the light and the dial comes with a beautiful silver finish coupled with steel baton markers.
The watch also comes in a full set which is just spectacular: The original wooden Grand Seiko 36000 box with its cushion and outer box, its original price tag, its original GS buckle coupled with its 36000 GS tag, its original and correct Certificate and its warranty card from Wako which really is the icing on the cake.
The original owner of this watch purchased this 61GS from Wako in Ginza, Tokyo and this card was issued in April Showa 44 (1969).
In the past five years, we’ve only come across a handful of 61GS that came with its box and serial matching guarantee booklet but this is a first for us to find such a complete set from Wako.
