The 5722-9991 and its family are famously known as the second Grand Seiko to be produced.
 
The second Grand Seiko wasn’t just a follow-up, it came with serious upgrades: A higher jewel count, a practical date complication, a faster beat rate of 19,800bph from its updated Cal.5722B, and a screw-down case back that gave it better water resistance than its predecessor, the Grand Seiko 3180.
 
The watch showcases Seiko’s signature silver sunburst dial, a timeless classic, paired with fan-favorite dauphine hands and razor-sharp diamond-cut indices. 
 
As a late variant, this model reflects a significant turning point: the elegant Gothic “Grand Seiko” script was eventually replaced by an applied GS logo, accompanied by “Grand Seiko” and “Diashock.” Around the same time, changes to Swiss chronometer certification rules also led to the quiet disappearance of the “Chronometer” text from the dial.
