The Daini Seikosha division originally created the King Seiko line as a high-end hand-wound watch to rival the Grand Seiko line developed by Suwa.
The first batch of automatic King Seikos was modest, with only one model, the 5626-7000, released in 1968. A second model, the 5626-7010, was introduced in 1969, followed by more options for watch face designs. In 1970, six more models were launched, with three of them certified as Superior Chronometers by the recently established Japan Chronometer Inspection Institute.
Among these chronometers was the 5626-7040, a beautiful and well-proportioned watch that remained in production the longest out of all the automatic King Seikos, in both its versions.
It all started with the 5626-7040 which had a monocoque case design that allowed access to the movement through the dial aperture, rather than the conventional way via a removable screw-down case back. These cases had a removable hatch between the lower lugs to allow for external fine regulation adjustment. However, the design of the 5626-7040 was changed in 1973 to a conventional screw-down case-back design, which resulted in the loss of the external fine adjustment feature.
With this update, the model number was changed to 5626-7041 to recognize this change in design while keeping the same external appearance.
This Ref.5626-7041 we have to offer is an untouched deadstock example and comes with its original box, outer box, price tag, and the iconic KS buckle.
If you've been looking for this model, then this dreamy example is as good as it gets.
