Citizen Hi-Line HL15702 Fuji Sakura

This is yet another extremely rare Citizen Hi-Line HL51507081 "Fuji Sakura".

Mount Fuji, the tallest peak in Japan, holds great religious significance for followers of the Shinto religion. It has remained a prominent and frequently depicted subject in Japanese literature and poetry throughout history. Citizen made them as a souvenir for overseas tourists who came to visit Japan during the 60s. Since mount fuji is also a popular tourist attraction in its own right, Citizen released three limited models with unique dials illustrating Ukiyo-e artwork made by Hokusai as souvenirs for visiting overseas tourists during the 60s.

Three different models in total were released and this particular example we have for sale, illustrating Mount Fuji during sunrise was inspired by the iconic "Fine Wind, Clear Morning" print or Gaifūkaisei 「凱風快晴」 which is also part of his Thirty-six Views of Mount Fuji series.

This Hi-Line features a 36mm CGP Citizen special thickness 14K Gold Plated case with beveled lugs making it suitable for every wrist size. Looking into the dial, Hokusai's artwork on display captivates viewers with its exquisite composition and vibrant palette It depicts a serene landscape reminiscent of a sunrise facing Mount Fuji. While the artwork itself is mesmerizing, it is also surrounded by beautifully arranged indexes which are elaborately engraved coupled with thin dauphine hands which perfectly blend into the artwork. Powered by the low-beat hand-wound Caliber 0500, it is running at 18,000 BPH.

Extremely hard to find as the dial and case tend to deteriorate, this particular example was very well kept and was originally part of a private collection.

We paired this beautiful Fuji Sakura with vintage light brown Citizen straps with its correct buckle to keep things classy from the Shōwa era but give this beautiful example a bit of a casual vibe.
