When talking about Citizen’s most iconic watches, the Alarm series sits firmly at the top. After pioneering Japan’s first calendar (1952), shock-resistant watch (1956), alarm wristwatch (1958), and water-resistant watch (1959), Citizen took an unexpected leap: combining a diver with an alarm complication.

The result is the rarely seen Citizen Alarm Date Diver that combines tool-watch toughness with a uniquely playful complication. Its ultra-glossy black dial, mirror-like bezel insert, and vivid red alarm hand create a look that’s unmistakably vintage yet incredibly striking.

Today’s example is an exceptionally rare export variant, Ref. 4-310012Y, appearing for the first time as a true deadstock piece, complete with its original bracelet and the JWCII quality-control sticker still intact. Used from 1954 to 1991, the JWCII mark was applied to Japan’s high-precision products, from watches to cameras.

The export model itself is scarcely documented, likely due to extremely limited production. How this piece resurfaced in Japan is a story of its own, but what’s certain is that it stands as yet another testament to Citizen’s enduring mastery in diver design.
